Target Audience - Anyone that likes burgers.
How it's effective - This ad is very funny and has a very catchy song.

Ask any questions v.s. Lie

If I could pick either ask any questions and get an answer or being able to lie, I would choose ask any questions. This is a difficult question for me because if I choose the question one, it's good that I can get a true answer, but I can't lie even though it's a secret. On the other hand, if I choose the lying one, it's good that I don't need to tell the truth for the private ones, but I can't ask any question I want and get a true answer. However, I would still choose ask any questions because lying sometimes makes things go worse. One example is that when my little sister wanted to tell me something and I don't answer the first time, she says, 'It's gone. I won't tell you' which made me more curious. But if I had the privilege to ask question and get an answer, I would ask 'What was the thing you were going to say?' then I would get a straight answer from her.

Jonas's Journal

Okay... I got 'selected' to be the next Receiver of Memory, and I feel confused right now about all the training and the rules. People say that the Receiver of Memory is the most important job in the community, but after I thought about all the pain that I would get (crushed hands in the door is NOTHING!), my confused feelings changed to scared feelings. Now, I realized that I have intelligence, integrity, courage, wisdom and capacity-to-see-beyond, but I am sure that I don't have that capacity-to-see-beyond ability... but the Receiver keeps on saying that I have that ability! So after I got that 'important' job, I read through the rules of the Receiver, and I was bewildered that I was permitted to lie. A bad thing about being a receiver is that I have to be alone and apart with all my friends...

Target Audience: People with shelter/money

This advertisement is giving the message that rich people should be thankful of what they already have, don't be greedy of what they want, and notice that there are much poorer people than them.

1. Symbolism - A box with a computer on it and a boy that is lying inside the box. It is saying that some people want a computer and all those expensive things, but others just want a place to live and sleep.

2. Body Language - The girl 'on' the box is smiling, playing a computer, and the boy 'in' the box is just lying down in a sleeping pose.

3. Camera Angle - The picture is taken from the side, and that is the only place that can actually make you see that the girl is 'on' the box, but the boy with jeans is 'in' the box. This advertisement doesn't have a particular camera angle.

4. Special Effects - (This is what I think) First, the boy in the box wore different kind of clothes from the girl on the box to make it look like two different people. Second, the location of this place is somewhere rusty and 'not clean' which makes it look like a place where poor people (the boy in the box) live.

5. Lighting and Color - Every part of the advertisement is dark colored except for the light blue colored box. This will make us look at the box first, the most important part of the advertisement.

6. Beauty and Standing - The girl in the box has tied her hair which looks net and it is more likely to be a not poor person, which is one of the main point of the advertisement.

7. Layout and Graphics - I like this advertisement because the boy with jeans and the girl on the box looks like one person, because they are lying down in the same position.

Psych

We watched another mystery movie called Psych after watching Monk last time. In this blog post, I will write the elements of a mystery of the movie Psych. The one we watched was called "Pilot".

Crime : Fake kidnapping, murder

Detective : Shawn and Gus

Villain : Mr. McCallum

Alibi : When Mr. McCallum said that he cut his wrist with a knife because he was sad that his son was kidnapped.

Victim : Mr. McCallum's son and his friend.

Suspect : Mr. McCallum

Sense of Tension : When Shawn explains all about what happened in Mr. McCallum's bedroom.

Red Herring : The bag filled with all the clothes and Shawn thought that there were ransom money.

Witness : Mr. McCallum's son's dog.

Evidence : Gun on the hand, coffee mixer, 2 dead bodies, cup, blood, bag and dog bite.

Clue : Mr. McCallum's cut-off wrist, blood on the dog's mouth, and the medicine in the bathroom.

Investigation : Investigation with Shawn, Gus and the police.

Surprise Ending : That Mr. McCallum killed his son and his friend, and when he admitted that he did the murder.

This picture shows a crime where this little cartoon guy steals lots of money from the safe. Crime is a thing villians do and it is usually to do with murder or stealing. It is against the law.

This pictures shows a cartoon detective holding a magnifying glass and looking at footprints to find clues. Detective is a person who tries to solve the crime. He is a protagonist.

This picture shows a cartoon villain holding a bomb which shows that he is a bad guy. Villains are the antagonist, who does the bad thing and hides from detectives. Other words for villains are criminals or bad guys.

This picture shows a cartoon victim, and the guy on the water holding his hand up is the victim. Victims are the person who gets affected by the villain and the crime. He is not the antagonist.

This picture shows a cartoon investigation. The detective is searching the newspaper with the magnifying glass for clues. Investigation is a process of solving the crime. Detectives or polices are who does the investigation.

This picture shows a cartoon paper of a suspect. It says WANTED on the top of the paper which tells that that guy on the black shirt is the suspect. He has money on his back that he stole. Suspects are the people who gets doubts from the detectives, and the suspect not be the real one.

Monk

We watched a movie called "Monk" in English class today. The reason of watching this movie is because we were on our mystery unit, and this movie fits this topic perfectly. This episode was called the Voodoo curse, which is a black magic which some people believe only.

One day, a old woman was hit by a baseball while she was passing by. She died immediately and Monk, his assistant Natalie and 2 other detectives came to solve this problem. Then, when the detective went to her house, there was a voodoo dall that was packaged. In the package, it said that it was sent 3 days ago before this baseball incident. The doll looked like the old woman, and it had a baseball that was stuck on the dolls head. Monk and the other detectives tried to solve this crime case, and right after this one, there was a newspaper article that said that a lightning killed a golfer. In the golfer's house, there was another doll sent which said 3 days ago and had a wire lightning sticking out of top of his head. It was a voodoo doll, and Monk's assistant Natalie thought that it was the Voodoo's curse, and she believed it. There were some more incidents that was similar to this, and one of them was Mr. Robert, Angeline's uncle's case. Mr. Robert already had a heart disease, and one day he died of heart attack in his house and there was a voodoo doll on the desk with the heart taken off. Angeline said that the doll killed him. After that, a similar case happened to Monk's assistant, Natalie. A voodoo doll was sent with Natalie's name on it and the head cut off. Natalie got really scared, and couldn't sleep. Because of that reason, Monk calls Mr. Reverend to uncurse Natalie. He makes a potion with all the weird ingredients and when he was saying something, Natalie became unpatient and drank the potion right away even though she was supposed to rub it on her neck. Mr. Reverend called 911 right away and the paramedic and police came. When the paramedic got on the ambulance with Natalie alone, Mr. Reverend and Monk rode a seperate car behind. Then, Mr. Reverend found everything out. He knew that Angeline was one of Mr. Reverend's Voodoo doll custemers. Angeline mailed a package to herself, makes the dolls, and put it in the package. She makes a package that says that it was sent 3 days ago, and mails it to the victims house after she gets the keys of the house. She also killed her uncle Mr. Robert by putting drugs into his mouth and she knew exactly what to put because she was a paramedic. Then in the ambulance, Angeline and Natalie started fighting, until Monk and Mr. Reverend comes out of the truck and opens the ambulance door.

Personal Narrative (The Fearful Elevator)

‘Buzz… Buzz…’ The elevator lights from above twinkled and went dead. It was all　dark and very freaky. It felt like the darkest haunted house ever. I could hear wind sounds since it was absolutely silent. I could even hear my breath sounds! It felt like wind coming out from my mouth. At first I thought nothing was going on but as 2 minutes passed, I started getting horrified. I realized it was 8^th floor because they still had an orange light on the number 8 key. I almost arrived at 10^th floor where my house was. I sat at the edge of the elevator and was scared to death. No… No…

This is how it all happened. ‘Bye!’ I said to my piano teacher. She lived at the same apartment but at 1^st floor so I had to go up 9 floors to reach my house at the 10^th. ‘Oops…’ I forgot to check my mailbox so I went down to ground floor and checked it. I got the envelope and went in the elevator. I was really exhausted so I decided to sleep at home as soon as I got there. There was nobody else inside the elevator which was good because I could just sit down at the elevator and rest for about 10 seconds until I reach 10^th floor. When I was going up, I didn’t know which floor it was and it was just peaceful until… ‘Wham!’ the elevator jittered. I was sure it wasn’t an earthquake because it wouldn’t jitter like this. Suddenly the elevator door opened and I looked down. The space below was vast and blank and I thought I was almost going to die. I went back and had no hope. Then, the light started twinkling.

I waited for 15 minutes. The light twinkled again and it was on! ‘Thank god!’ It was all OK and I was very pleased. The elevator door suddenly opened and I saw the front door of my house straight ahead. I was so exhausted so I slept in my house all day.

Characterization on Diary of a Wimpy Kid

In this book, the main character and the protagonist is a boy named Greg. The author, Jeff Kinney describes Greg in a very nice and detailed way and makes the book more interesting and funny. He is a very funny author and comes up with nice ideas of making the book fabulous and attractive.

On page 120, Jeff Kinney makes Greg's soccer coach, Mr. Litch a very fierce and strick person. When Greg and his friends had a drink of water and was trying to go to the soccer field, Mr. Litch suddenly yelled - "Get your butts over here!!!"
This shows the readers that Mr. Litch has a bad temper at his students.

On page 143, Greg wore his Speedo underpants because he didn't have any clean ones. On the changing room at P.E. class, his pants went down and other students made fun of him and teased him. " People laughed, "Ha Ha!" and Greg had nothing to say except for "Whup!". Jeff Kinney introduced Greg as a character who always gets in trouble and Greg gets bad things or unlucky things happen to him all the time. This situation shows that this is the main problem of the book.

On page 182, Greg's brother, Rodrick pushes Greg out to the corridor while Greg was only wearing the underwear by tricking him that Greg's crush, Holly Hills is right out there. The passage reads, "Before I realize it was a trick, Rodrick gave me a big shove, and I fell out of the door." Jeff Kinney introduces Rodrick as a mean and a bit cruel person to his brother. This shows that Rodrick is a antagonist, especially to his brother.

I think the reason that this book is fun and interesting is because Jeff Kinney describes well on making Greg getting in trouble. Greg is a funny character because he always comes out with weird ideas and it becomes a failure all the time. Jeff Kinney did a very nice job writing this book.

Favourite Author Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was born in Llandaf, Wales on September 13th, 1916. His parents were Norwegian. In the book 'WITCHES', he based his mother as the grandmother because he got the most tremendous feeling of security from his mom.

When Roald Dahl was young, he really loved stories. His mom told him stories with his sisters and brothers. When Roald Dahl became a little older, he became liking adventure stories. He loved authors like Dickens and Ambrose Bierce.

He first started writing adult books for the first 15 years of writing. Then he moved to writing children books, which made him become well-known and famous.

His first book was 'JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH' and after that book, he wrote a book called 'CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACOTORY'. These books became very famous and were also made into a movie.

He worked and wrote books in England in a house called 'Gipsy house'. It was a hut at the bottom of the garden. In the Gipsy house, he wrote most of his unforgettable stories of young and old. Roald Dahl couldn't type and he always used a pencil to write. For most of the time, he started writing at 9: 30 in the morning and at 10:30 am, he took a cup of coffee and rested a bit. Then he wrote again until noon. After the afternoon read, he returned at his hut and continued writing stories. He wrote a lot of drafts at the first because he usually couldn't write something right at the first time.

Since I love Roald Dahl's writing, I have read a lot of his books. Those include 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', 'Mathilda', 'Fantastic Mr. Fox', 'George's Marvellous Medicine', 'The Twits', 'The Witches', 'Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator', and 'The BFG'.
