Ask any questions v.s. Lie

If I could pick either ask any questions and get an answer or being able to lie, I would choose ask any questions. This is a difficult question for me because if I choose the question one, it's good that I can get a true answer, but I can't lie even though it's a secret. On the other hand, if I choose the lying one, it's good that I don't need to tell the truth for the private ones, but I can't ask any question I want and get a true answer. However, I would still choose ask any questions because lying sometimes makes things go worse. One example is that when my little sister wanted to tell me something and I don't answer the first time, she says, 'It's gone. I won't tell you' which made me more curious. But if I had the privilege to ask question and get an answer, I would ask 'What was the thing you were going to say?' then I would get a straight answer from her.

Jonas's Journal

Okay... I got 'selected' to be the next Receiver of Memory, and I feel confused right now about all the training and the rules. People say that the Receiver of Memory is the most important job in the community, but after I thought about all the pain that I would get (crushed hands in the door is NOTHING!), my confused feelings changed to scared feelings. Now, I realized that I have intelligence, integrity, courage, wisdom and capacity-to-see-beyond, but I am sure that I don't have that capacity-to-see-beyond ability... but the Receiver keeps on saying that I have that ability! So after I got that 'important' job, I read through the rules of the Receiver, and I was bewildered that I was permitted to lie. A bad thing about being a receiver is that I have to be alone and apart with all my friends...

CLIO Awards

Target Audience: People with shelter/money

This advertisement is giving the message that rich people should be thankful of what they already have, don't be greedy of what they want, and notice that there are much poorer people than them.

1. Symbolism - A box with a computer on it and a boy that is lying inside the box. It is saying that some people want a computer and all those expensive things, but others just want a place to live and sleep.

2. Body Language - The girl 'on' the box is smiling, playing a computer, and the boy 'in' the box is just lying down in a sleeping pose.

3. Camera Angle - The picture is taken from the side, and that is the only place that can actually make you see that the girl is 'on' the box, but the boy with jeans is 'in' the box. This advertisement doesn't have a particular camera angle.

4. Special Effects - (This is what I think) First, the boy in the box wore different kind of clothes from the girl on the box to make it look like two different people. Second, the location of this place is somewhere rusty and 'not clean' which makes it look like a place where poor people (the boy in the box) live.

5. Lighting and Color - Every part of the advertisement is dark colored except for the light blue colored box. This will make us look at the box first, the most important part of the advertisement.

6. Beauty and Standing - The girl in the box has tied her hair which looks net and it is more likely to be a not poor person, which is one of the main point of the advertisement.

7. Layout and Graphics - I like this advertisement because the boy with jeans and the girl on the box looks like one person, because they are lying down in the same position.

Fitness Test

I'm having a P.E. fitness test on second block today. Today is the Pacer, Push up and sit ups. 2 days ago, I did the Mile Run and the sit and reach, and I decreased on Mile where I got 8 minutes 24 seconds. My best score was 8 minutes 6 seconds. On the sit and reach, I increased where I got R : 12.5, L : 11.5. We just had to increase in one leg, and I increased by 0.5 inch because I got 12 last time.

The Pacer is where you have to run back and forth by the recording. It will say how many laps you are on. Example : 25! 26! 27! etc... Also, there is a sound like "BEEP! Then you have to get to the line before the beep. If you don't make it 2 in a row, you are out. When 7 laps are finished, there will be a weird sounding beep and the beep will then become faster.

To get an A for P.E., we have to increase in 2 things out of 5. Those five are Pacer, Push up, sit up, Mile and sit and reach. Since I increased in sit and reach, i have to increasll e in 1 more thing. My Pacer score 2 fitness tests ago was 66, and the fitness test before I also got 66. I have to get at least 67 to get an A, which is one of my goals for my fitness test today. For the sit ups, I got around 50 last time, so my other goal is getting more than 50. Also, my last goal is to beat my push ups, where I got around 30 last time, and trying to beat 30 today. I don't really mind if I increase in just 1 thing, because I could still get an A. I think it is hard to increase the Pacer and the curl up, but I think I can make it to beating my push ups and getting an A.

Monk

We watched a movie called "Monk" in English class today. The reason of watching this movie is because we were on our mystery unit, and this movie fits this topic perfectly. This episode was called the Voodoo curse, which is a black magic which some people believe only.

One day, a old woman was hit by a baseball while she was passing by. She died immediately and Monk, his assistant Natalie and 2 other detectives came to solve this problem. Then, when the detective went to her house, there was a voodoo dall that was packaged. In the package, it said that it was sent 3 days ago before this baseball incident. The doll looked like the old woman, and it had a baseball that was stuck on the dolls head. Monk and the other detectives tried to solve this crime case, and right after this one, there was a newspaper article that said that a lightning killed a golfer. In the golfer's house, there was another doll sent which said 3 days ago and had a wire lightning sticking out of top of his head. It was a voodoo doll, and Monk's assistant Natalie thought that it was the Voodoo's curse, and she believed it. There were some more incidents that was similar to this, and one of them was Mr. Robert, Angeline's uncle's case. Mr. Robert already had a heart disease, and one day he died of heart attack in his house and there was a voodoo doll on the desk with the heart taken off. Angeline said that the doll killed him. After that, a similar case happened to Monk's assistant, Natalie. A voodoo doll was sent with Natalie's name on it and the head cut off. Natalie got really scared, and couldn't sleep. Because of that reason, Monk calls Mr. Reverend to uncurse Natalie. He makes a potion with all the weird ingredients and when he was saying something, Natalie became unpatient and drank the potion right away even though she was supposed to rub it on her neck. Mr. Reverend called 911 right away and the paramedic and police came. When the paramedic got on the ambulance with Natalie alone, Mr. Reverend and Monk rode a seperate car behind. Then, Mr. Reverend found everything out. He knew that Angeline was one of Mr. Reverend's Voodoo doll custemers. Angeline mailed a package to herself, makes the dolls, and put it in the package. She makes a package that says that it was sent 3 days ago, and mails it to the victims house after she gets the keys of the house. She also killed her uncle Mr. Robert by putting drugs into his mouth and she knew exactly what to put because she was a paramedic. Then in the ambulance, Angeline and Natalie started fighting, until Monk and Mr. Reverend comes out of the truck and opens the ambulance door.

Plastiki

Plastiki is a boat that was made with 12,500 recycled bottles. This boat is 20 meters long, and this idea was made by one of the 6 crews, David de Rothchild. He's going to sail all over the Pacific Ocean, starting from California, USA and finally going to reach Sydney in Australia. Some people think that it is not possible to sail from California to Sydney just by a boat that is made by plastic bottles, but the crews all think that they are going to make it. It started sailing from March 20, 2010 which was 10 days ago, and it is now passing Cape Horn, the bottom part of South America. This expedition started because of the amount of air pollution and global warming. David de Rothchild said that the Pacific Ocean is just one big chunk of trash and the he decided to cross the Pacific Ocean by boats made by 12,500 recycled bottles.

KOREA v.s. HONGKONG

Last Sunday, there was a soccer match (real professional players). It was the Asian Cup; and there were four teams which were South Korea, Japan, China, and Hong Kong. It was held in Tokyo, Japan, and the first match for South Korea was against Hong Kong. This Cup was held just to get ready for the World Cup in South Africa which will be on June of 2010.

I was playing game in my computer myself, then my dad called me and said that there is going to be a soccer match. I ran to the T.V. and was so excited. We knew that Hong Kong was a weak team, so I was sure we were going to beat them. The match started. After 10 minutes passed, South Korea scored a header goal. The scorer was the South Korean captain. I was so happy so I was jumping from up to down. Well, we scored another goal in 15 minutes. I jumped up to down and we scored by a turning shot. 2:0 already after 15 minutes. I was so proud of South Korea. Then, after 30 minutes, we scored another goal! The scorer was Lee-Dong-Guk and he was the best player in the team. He haven't scored a goal for so long but he scored a fabulous header goal in this match! Again, I jumped. 3:0! Just before the half time, we scored another goal, AN AWESOME GOAL! The whistle blew! The half time. Then, the second half was BORING. We didn't score any goals until.... the last minute! We scored at the 92nd minute. And, the whistle blew. Final score was 5:0. And the Korean goalkeeper touched the ball only a few times.

Extra INFO - 1. China played with Japan and they had a tie.
2. We are playing against China today in Japan.
3. We are playing against Japan this Sunday,

Test...Test...TEST

Ok. About 2 weeks passed after the holiday. When school started, it was pretty good meeting my friends and studying (a little amount). It was all comfortable going to school and staying 7 hours here. All the breaks, play, study. However, now, after 2 weeks, there are lots of tests in Middle School!

Last Friday, there was a Science Formative. Then, at the same day, I had another Quiz for Mandarin. Yesterday, we had a Science Summative and at the same day, I had another Mandarin Quiz. Tomorrow, we have a Math Formative. There is a house project that's going to start today, and there will be a Math Summative next week. Soon, I will have about 4 Mandarin Formatives and Summatives. (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking).

For Math, I am in Black Level so it is the hardest level and the most challenging one in 6th Grade. We are learning Geometry and I don't like Geometry. We have homework everyday a lot. I think the amount of tests and homework are overwhelming for me. Test...Test...TEST, Homework...Homework...HOMEWORK!

However, if this week and next week passes, it is FREEDOM!!!!!! (But there are still going to be pretty much homework.)

My Soccer Match

Last Saturday, JIS B team had the first soccer match in the season. This is a very competitive league called Coca-Cola League and the season just started. I am in the U14 league so I'm the youngest in my team. There is the A team and the B team and A team is better than the B team. However, there are lots of 8th grade people participating so I got picked in the B team while most of the 8th graders went in the A team. For the first match, we were playing the French School (LIF) in ISCI at 11:45 a.m. The French School already played a match and won 3:0 so they were in the top of the league. For this match I was playing first as a striker. We all warmed up and got ready.

"PHIP!" The whistle blew. The match started and we did the kick-off. The French School had really good strikers such as Simon. Just after the game started, the other team had the ball and attacked towards us. We couldn't block them so I was 100% sure we were going to lose. Anyways, they dribbled and shot. Luckily, our goalkeeper was good enough to block that shot. We barely crossed the half line and they just went in our penalty box a lot of times but our defenders were good. I attacked towards their goal and dribbled. I got rid of one of their defenders but they were VERY agressive. I couldn't get past them. French School's attack. Simon kept on dribbling and dribbling and went in the penalty box. "PHIP" the whistle blew again and I wondered what was happening. THE REFEREE SAID THAT WE DID A HANDBALL!!! I was sure we didn't do a handball and everybody thought that. Well, it was no use and Simon scored a penalty. We were down 0:1 on half time.

Now it was the second half. We attacked a lot of times and became aggresive than the first half. We were getting better but their defenders were too good. I got substituted out and went in again after 10 minutes. When we attacked, I suddenly had a stomachache so I got substituted out again. I had to watch the game until the end. Yes! We were going straight to their penalty box but the defender blocked again. "PHIP" the whistle blew and WE LOST.

0:1. It was better than we expected and we were better than the first half. Well, life is life. I was disappointed but we could do better next time. I was sure we were going to win the next match against the Indonesian School. There is another chance!!! GO JIS!!!

Haiti Earthquake Part II

Last Tuesday about at 5:00 p.m., there was a disastorous earthquake at magnitude 7.0 that struck Haiti. It was a total disaster and a nightmare. However a lot of things changed after 1 week.

Compared to last week, there are lots and lots of supplies coming from different countries. They are all sending waters, food, aids, medical supplies and lots more. Countries all over the world send these supplies by airplanes and trucks. The picture above is another country coming to Haiti with all the supplies. For example, Brazil sent about $10000000 to Haiti and Korea sent about $10000000 as well to Haiti. As I said, lots of countries are helping Haiti such as U.S.A., China, Iceland, Japan, and more. There are lots of way to help Haiti victims and there is a really cool way and it's this. SMS to 90999 and type "Haiti". Then, $10 will go to Haiti. In one day, $2000000 dollars were sent to Haiti just because of SMS's. The Haiti people collected diapers, batteries, medicines, clothings, and toiletries. U.S.A. is helping Haiti a lot by sending tons and tons of water because Haiti is most short of food and water.

This earthquake was a nightmare, and we are lucky that lots of countries are sending help to Haiti. I hope more countries still help and give supplies to Haiti.

Haiti Earthquake

2 days ago, on January 12th 2010 at about 5 pm, a disastorous earthquake struck Haiti, Carribean. This earthquake was a really bad earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter Scale. This destructive earthquake killed about 100,000 people and a lot and lot of people were injured and are still missing. Lots of children are still stuck in the collapsed building and can't come out of it. 17 UN people died and 56 people were injured while over 200 UN staff are still missing. Lots of buildings and schools collapsed during this earthquake and all the people were running all over the place to survive from the earthquake. Even the palace in Haiti collapsed and the walls were all cracked. The telephone connections didn't work as well. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world with only $1.5 each day to spend. They are a poor country... and they even get this destructive earthquake!!! How unlucky are they? Again, lots of people are injured and are bleeding so they need a doctor but they can't find a good doctor with only that amount of money each day. Lots of Haiti police are still trying to find missing people and people that are stuck on the buildings. 19 countries including U.S.A, China, Brazil, UK and Ireland are helping Haiti by sending aids, and more. If you were at Haiti right now, you will see dead bodies and injured people bleeding on the street.

Back to School

From the 17th of December to the 10th of January, it was a December break. I really liked the December break and hoped it was way longer but unluckily, it wasn't possible. I did a lot of fun things during the December break like going to Bali, playing with my friends, playing sports with my dad, and lots more. It was great time then even though I had a lot of homework to do for my private lesson. I watched a lot of movies and dramas and it was really fun. I think 3 weeks passed really fast and it felt like December break started two days ago. Time goes really fast when you are having fun. After all the fun during December break, it was time to go back to school.

January 11th. Time to go back to school and the December break ended. I was disappointed that December break was this short and that I had to go back to school and study. Of course, it is good to meet our classmates again but amount of studying gets tripled and amount of homework gets doubled. Since January 4th, when i came back from Bali, I realized that December break only had 1 week left and I started getting worried all about more homework and studying. However, when I came back to school on January 11th, I have new classes such as Design Art and it was great having that for my electives. I have to get used to going back to school now. I really hope December break was longer and June holiday is even longer than this break.

HOLIDAY IS SOOOOO GOOD!

My December Break

Staying Home - For most of the time during this December break, I stayed at home and rested a lot. I read a few books, studied, and played with my friends. However, we finally got out of Jakarta on New Year's Day, where I went to Bali. Staying home might be boring for most of people, but I like staying at home, resting and relaxing.

Family - Like I said above, I stayed at home most of the times and that was of course with my families. I played a lot with my dad and had lunch & dinner outside with my family. I did a lot of sports like golf, tennis, swimming, and more. When I stayed at Bali, I spent all the time with my family and had FUN!!! I think this is the best part of my December Holiday!

Movies - I watched 3 movies on this December Holiday. They are:

1. Avatar
2. Gukgadaepyo
3. 2012

These are all great movies and I enjoyed a lot when I watched them. Avatar is about... (You all know), Gukgadaepyo is about skiing and 2012 is about Earth getting destroyed by natural disasters (Earthquakes, volcano eruptions and tsnamis). Beside watching 3 movies, I watched this Korean Drama almost everyday for 1 hour and it was really (x 100) awesome. For the next movie, I want to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks 2. "Movie" part of my December Break were really great.

Bali Day 4

This is the last day in Bali for us. I had breakfast in my villa and it was good! After resting a bit, I swam again until 9:30. I think swimming in the villa is really fun. Then I played board games again with my dad's friend and my sister. We also watched Korean drama again. When it was 11:00, we all packed our bags and got ready for leaving Bali. We drank milk and ate fruits. I said BYE to Bali and went to the airport. I rode Lion Air and returned home. I wanted to stay at Bali more!!!!!! =(. Bali was really good and I want to play with my dad's friend again because he is really nice. What a great trip~!

Bali Day 3

This day was just normal and I did nothing special so it's going to be short. First, I had breakfast down at the villa and had the same thing but I also ate pancakes which was awesome!!! Then, I played with 2 of my dad's friends' and my sister board games. It was sooooooo fun! I won all the games! I played board games until 11:00. All of my dad's friends' had to leave now... except for my favourite one! I kept on playing board games with him and my sister. Time for lunch! I had lunch at my own villa and had curry, saland and steak! After a delicious lunch, I came back to the villa and swam with my dad, my sister, my dad's friends', and my baby brother. It was so good!

I just rested again and again and played board games with my dad's friend again. While I was playing, my dad, my mom, my baby brother and my sister went to a spa where they massage you and drink juices. I didn't go there because I thought it was going to be boring but when I looked at the pictures after they came back, it looked awesome! I regreted... again.

We all went to a Indonesian restaurant called Made for dinner. I had nasi goreng special and lemon squash. It was soooooo delicious!!! At the beginning, I said this day was just normal but the dinner was the best out of all days. After the best dinner, we went to Starbucks and rested. I drank this classic juice and also drank sweet coffee with ice cream on top. It was really delicious and this was the first time I tried coffee.

I came back, and my dad and his friend talked about work. After 2 hours, it was 12:00 and I wasn't sleepy. I watched this Korean drama with my dad's friends until 1:00. My sister didn't get to watch it because she slept early.

Bali Day 2

I woke up early morning at 7 o clock. All of MY family woke up at 6:30 but 3 out of 4 of my dad's friends' were still sleeping in their bed, peacefully. I wanted to wake them up and play with them but my dad didn't allow it because they slept late last night after going to a cafe and drink. I just rested (AGAIN) and read book and stuff like that. When it was time for breakfast, I woke all 3 of them up and headed down for breakfast. We had breakfast inside the villa. There were white bread, chocolate bread, nasi goreng, mie goreng, fried and scrambled eggs, and lemon tea. I had mie goreng, white bread, chocolate bread and lemon tea (I'm allergic to eggs). I went back to my villa and jumped down at the little pool and played with my baby brother. He just liked it so much!!!! It was our own little pool and every villa has its own. Then, we went back to the big pool and the pool was warm. It was better for me because I can go right down to the pool. If it is cold, I can't get down to the pool right away.

Now this is the best part of staying at Bali. Going to the ocean and playing water stuff! We divided ourself in two groups. One was the ocean thing and the other one was going to a temple and also seeing monkeys on roads. In the ocean thing, they had banana boat, jet ski, fly fish, parasailing, water ski, diving, snorkeling, seeing dolphins, turtles, and lots more. I decided to do banana boat and fly fish with my sister and one of my dad's friends'. Banana boat is like a long small boat you ride on which looks like a banana and we just go through the ocean really fast. I wanted to fall down to the water but the guy didn't let us fall down so it was BoRiNg, but also fun because it went fast. After resting while drinking Pocari Sweat, we did fly fish where you lie down and a thing flies around the sky and go down, fly around, and go down. It was really fun. Then I just rested while the others did parasailing. I was scared to do that because I'm scared of heights. When they came back, they said it was awesome!!! I regreted. My sister did Jet Ski and the rest of us didn't. We had lunch at this water place and I had hot dogs.

When I came back to the villa, I was tired so I played board games with one of my dad's friend's and my sister again. It was awesome! Then, we decided to go to a restaurant called La Lucciola and had pasta, ribs and more. It wasn't that good but the scenery was AWESOME! It was the best scenery I've ever seen. Then, we all came back to the villa... BUT my dad's friends went to the cafe again! So... I had to do homework and read in my room. After that, it was 10:00 pm but I went to the swimming pool with my sister, my mom, and my little brother. I waited for my dad's friends to return, but they didn't come so I just slept.

Bali Day 1

I should have posted all these days in Bali but there was no laptop so... i have to post all now. Well, Bali Day 1. After a 1 hour 3o minute fly to Bali, we went to our villa called VivaLavi. We had lunch then in an Italian Restaurant called Trattoria Pizza which was just awesome!!! I had pizza and pasta. When I came back to our villa, I played board games with one of my dad's friends. It was really fun and I played board games a lot during this trip. Then I decided to swim at the big swimming pool outside with my sister, my mom and one of my dad's friends'. Since it was the first day, we didn't do much things but just rest in our villas, sleeping.

After playing board games and resting with my dad's friends', we decided to have dinner outside at a restaurant in Seminyak. We had steak and chicken sate which was realllllly good. I wanted to return home and play board games with my dad's friends' again, but all of them wanted to go to a cafe and drink beer and coffee. Our family only had to return home and sleep. However, I watched tennis (Nadal v.s. Fererro) on TV when I returned.
